Evers, Holtz Advance in State Superintendent Race

Tony Evers and Lowell Holtz were the top 2 vote-getters in Tuesday’s state superintendent primary race and will advance to the general election. Evers, the incumbent, had the largest share of votes with about 70%, while Holtz received around 23%. John Humphries received 7% of the vote.

Evers released a statement, in which he called “the real winners” of the election “Wisconsin’s 860,000 public school kids. Evers also regarded the outcome as a “victory for the kids, parents, teachers and Wisconsin’s public education system.”

Humphries, the third place vote-getter, also released a statement Tuesday night, congratulating his opponents in their victories and stating he is looking forward to a “vigorous public debate… over the next 6 weeks.” In his statement, Humphries encourages voters to learn more about both candidates and their plans for the future.

The general election for State Superintendent will be on April 4, 2017.
