Wisconsin’s Spring Primary is this Tuesday, February 21. The
two candidates who receive the most votes in each primary race will advance to
the general election on April 4.
State Superintendent
The State Superintendent primary is the race to watch.
Incumbent Tony Evers is being challenged by retired Whitnall School District
Superintendent Lowell Holtz and Dodgeville School District employee John
Humphries. A fourth candidate, Rick Melcher, is running a write-in
campaign. This race has drawn significant media attention during the last
week after Humphries
alleged that Holtz offered him a job and private driver if he dropped out
of the race. Holtz says that Humphries is lying and that the idea was
actually proposed by a “business leader.”
School Board and Local Government
There are school board and other local government primary
elections taking places in communities across the state as well as several
school referenda.
State Supreme Court
State Supreme Court Justice Annette Ziegler is also up for
re-election this Spring, but she is running unopposed, so while this race won’t
appear on your ballot Tuesday it will be on the April 4 ballot.
